Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need Skerrik?.
The meta tags available to web page authors are too general to allow a full and clear description of what a site is about. The major search engines have developed complex systems to attempt to 'figure out' what a site is about based on the words found on each page. Sometimes this produces results just fine, other times you get wildly different results from what you were searching for.
By providing web authors with better ways to describe their work we can also provide users with better ways of finding that work.

How do I search on skerrik?
You can ask questions on Skerrik, like "How is ...", "Who makes ...", "Where is ..."

Is it better than the other search engines?
Skerrik is better because it takes a different approach to searching by putting the power to describe what a web site is about into the hands of web authors.

Why do you pass your searches to Yahoo?
Yahoo is a major search engine and produces excellent results. To provide our users with the best overall experience any skerrik search that produces a small number of results is passed to yahoo.
Yahoo is also the best fit for skerriks plain english searches, unlike Google and Bing which produce very general searches based on content found on a page.

I can't add your tags to my web site
In those cases where you can't add the tags to a web site directly, you can always submit the web site here and fill in the tag details at the same time.

Should I add skerrik tags to every page of my site?
It depends on the content of your site. For a site that is largely covering a single topic then you could add tags to just the home page. For bigger sites or sites that cover a range of topics, then it's better to add tags to each page separately that describe just that page.
As a general rule it's always better to add meta tags on a page by page basis for any site to get the best results for all search engines.
